Demon Squadron

From Emperor's Hammer Encyclopaedia Imperia

Demon Squadron was an Escort squadron attached to Wing XI of the ISD-II Immortal. It operated from 2000 until April 2004, when Wing XI and the Immortal were closed.

History[edit]

Wing XI and the Immortal were opened in April 1999, but not all squadrons were immediately activated. By 2000, however, Demon Squadron was open and operating under its first commander, Nix.

After a brief month in command, Nix's replacement, Felagund, would in turn be replaced by former commander of Falcon Squadron and former Wing XI Wing Commander, Dras Hempor, giving Demon Squadron a shot of veteran leadership. Dras Hempor would lead the squadron for over four months before taking up a Flight Member spot, although his retirement was ultimately brief - a month later, he would be appointed to Commodore of the Immortal.

His replacement, Roth Jalis, would serve in the role of commander for three months. Around the time of his departure, it was decided to close Vampire Squadron after a failed attempt to get the squadron running and bringing Wing XI up to its full complement of six squadrons. Vampire would be merged into Demon Squadron, with its commander, Nic Rety, taking over. He would only last a month before being replaced by Nakata, an active Lieutenant who had only been in Demon Squadron (and the TIE Corps) for two months at the time of the appointment. Nakata would serve for six months, becoming one of Demon's longest tenured commanders, before being replaced by a returning Roth Jalis, who would remain for four months before departing again.

Hunter, a pilot that had served in both Falcon Squadron and Ranger Squadron as well as a stint in Praetorian Squadron, was selected as the new commander. His impact was immediate, and was soon awarded TIE Corps Battlegroups Commander of the Month award in July 2002 for his work with Demon Squadron. But his time with Demon was short; he retired the next month with only two months of work to his name. His replacement was Brat Stone, a former commander of Odin Squadron onboard the Grey Wolf. Brat Stone would hold command for three months until retiring from command.

This would enter into a period of instability for Demon Squadron's leadership. Brat Stone's replacement was the Immortal veteran Arso Slyth, who had previously commanded Falcon Squadron, Ghost Squadron (twice), and had served as Wing Commander for Wing XI. Although his career with the Immortal had been prestigious, his stop with Demon was short-lived, leaving after less than two months. His replacement, the former Typhoon Squadron commander Triji Boliv from the Challenge, lasted even less, leaving after a month. After two attempts at veteran leadership, the Immortal's command staff pivoted to young pilots, placing Ernest Penfold, a member of Omega Squadron on the Sovereign, in command of Demon. He lasted a brief two months, with his replacement, Dulcatos from the Relentless, lasting only three months.

Desperate for stability with the squadron, Immortal Commodore Locke Setzer and Wing Commander BubbaX turned to Mosh, a Flight Member of Vampire Squadron with previous command experience from his time on the Relentless, with stints commanding Sword Squadron and Shield Squadron, as well as having previous served as Wing Commander for Wing IX. Mosh provided a stable command presence for Demon, and would become its longest-serving commander, commanding the squadron for seven months. He would also be the last commander; with the order to closure the Immortal and redistribute its pilots arriving in April 2004.

Upon the Immortal's closure, Mosh was given the option to relocate his pilots to any other squadron in the TIE Corps Battlegroups. Being a long-time veteran of the Relentless, Mosh decided to relocate Demon's pilots to Dagger Squadron, placing himself and his pilots under the auspices of his old ship and wing.
