An LFD file is a 'LucasArts Resource File'. This is used in some LucasArts games, for purposes varying from graphics, to battle information.

The Emperor's Hammer releases custom .lfd files with TIE Fighter custom battles, to allow custom information to appear ingame regarding the battle.
