X-Wing Vs TIE Fighter installation and setup for online play[edit]

In order to play X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter online, the following steps must be completed:

Networking[edit]

Set up port forwards[edit]

Most gamers today sit behind a router which has an active firewall running that is blocking all ports from incoming connections. In addition, most also have a local firewall (Windows Firewall, McAfee, AVG, Norton, etc.). These need to be configured in order to fly in the multiplayer environment.

This is the most crucial and also the most error prone part of the process. It may seem to be a complicated and time consuming process but don't give up. There are only a few things you have to configure.

  1. The router
  2. The firewall

Both XvT and XWA were designed to use the [old DirectPlay] version and therefore require open ports for incoming connections.

Forward these ports to your local/LAN IP:

  • 2300-2400 TCP+UDP
  • 6073 UDP
  • 47624 TCP
  • 1001 TCP+UDP - Errant Venture ONLY
  • 2403-2404 TCP+UDP - Errant Venture ONLY

If you need help configuring your router, visit [PortForward.com]. Determine your router model and look at screen shots to assist you in the setup. It is best to ensure that your port forwards work BEFORE attempting to enter into matches with other players! You can use this [Port Check Utitity] for this purpose.

Local Firewall[edit]

If you have a local firewall on your computer, like Windows Firewall or some other security software enabled you need to create exceptions for:

  • C:\Program Files\LucasArts\XWingTie\Z_XVT__.EXE or whatever path you installed XvT into.
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\dplaysvr.exe

In Windows XP do this under Control Panel -> Windows Firewall or Security Center (scroll down to Windows Firewall there) -> Exceptions -> Add Program...
