Matu Vonnegut

From Emperor's Hammer Encyclopaedia Imperia

Background[edit]

The Vonnegut family operated a modest shipping service, T7 Cargo and Mining Co., based in the Naboo system around the outbreak of hostilities between the Galactic Empire and rebel forces. Not long after the destruction of the first Death Star the Vonnegut family’s Y-8 mining vessel Halcyon was destroyed by rebel forces upon its return from an asteroid mining expedition in the Kessel System. It is believed the vessel, transmitting an Imperial transponder to operate legitimately in Naboo space, was mistaken for an Imperial logistics vessel operating in support of efforts to attain the Star Core device from the Naboo moon, Rori. Both of Matu’s parents were killed in the attack.

Joining the TIE Corps[edit]

Following his parent's death, Matu lied about his age to join the Imperial Academy. Upon graduation he was assigned to the Emperor’s Hammer Task force as a member of Cyclone Squadron aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer Challenge. He quickly excelled in mastering the TIE Advanced assigned to his squadron, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Imperial Navy and elevated to the position of Flight Leader.

The Schism[edit]

Unbeknownst to Matu, old rivalries and tensions between the newly appointed Fleet Admiral Astatine and members of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood had reached a breaking point. While flying as a member of a combined arms assault force comprised of elements from Wing X and the Dark Jedi Brotherhood tasked with the capture or destruction of a suspected insurgent training platform in the Outer Rim, a trap was sprung by FA Astatine. While the main target of the betrayal were high ranking members of the DJB, TIE Corps pilots were considered necessary collateral damage.

Remnants of Honor[edit]

Though the trap was largely successful, Matu and several other assault force members managed to escape. They would eventually regroup with Remnants of Honor[able] (RoH) Imperial officers that had survived FA Astatine’s purge. Under the leadership of Admirals Mell Kerrigan and Von Reinthaler as well as the Dark Jedi Sarin, a base of operations was established in Sanctum Malleus on the planet Talus. There, RoH was attached to Black Epsilon Squadron which was headquartered at the Imperial Outpost on Talus and under direct orders from the Emperor. Matu, alongside frequent squad mate Ispep, excelled at a variety of clandestine operations, in space and on the ground, throughout the galaxy before RoH was integrated with CLAW (Clandestine Logistics and Adaptive Warfare) Squadron of the 96th Task Force.

Return[edit]

Once control of the Emperor's Hammer Task Force was rested back from FA Astatine, Matu returned as a Flight Leader assigned to Spectre Squadron aboard the SSD Avenger.
