A-Wing
The Rz-1 A-Wing Interceptor design was focused on astonishing speed and maneuverability, making it a deadly opponent for slower and unshielded craft, vulnerable to strafing fire, such as the TIE Fighter and TIE Bomber.
Its wedged looking profile packed two Novaldex J-77 “Event Horizon” Sublight Engines powered by dual Bpr-99 power generators and fusion reactors, leaving a bare minimum space for the pilot and even armament.
Two laser cannons adorned the sides of the hull, and two general use launchers were fitted in the main body, leaving it relatively unarmed compared to the X-Wing and the mighty Y-Wing. It was shielded, but it could not divert enough power to a medium generator and was then fitted with a light Sirplex Z-9 shield projector that provided only minimum defense. However, the enemy must be able to target it first, and its incredible speed more than compensated its weaknesses.
The A-Wing was such an annoyance that the Empire invested much of its research into the TIE Interceptor to produce a fighter capable of going toe to toe with the A/W.
Also, the A-Wing required a very skilled pilot to properly tame it and take its maximum, and also a bit crazy, as the stabilators were prone to decalibration and many components were known to power losses or even complete detachment during high speed maneuvers. The Emperor’s Hammer has two flights of A-Wings on its Infiltrator Wing, working from the MC-90 Calamari Cruise Renegade.
