DB:Dark Side Compendium Dark Council

The Dark Council consists of those who have been personally chosen by the Grand Master to assist in the administration of the Secret Order and the training of new operatives.

Grand Master

The Grand Master is the leader of the Secret Order and is appointed by the Fleet Commander. The Grand Master has sweeping dictatorial powers over the Order and grants all positions and powers. The Grand Master serves as the keeper of the Dark Hall (the Secret Order's base of operations) and Governor Plenipotentiary of Eos (the Secret Order's home world). The current Grand Master may also be afforded the title of "Darth" at the discretion of the Fleet Commander.

In practice, the Grand Master (GM) is responsible first and foremost for setting the direction of the club. The GM directs and approves the Dark Council's projects, and is responsible for presenting proposals that require Fleet Commander approval. The GM is responsible for selecting Dark Council members and will typically be involved in deciding lesser appointments as needed. The GM may involve themselves in the management of the roster, the Discord server, and any component of the organization as they see fit.

Commander of the Guard

The Commander of the Guard is the second in command of the Secret Order and acts as its leader in the Grand Master's absence. The Commander of the Guard is the only individual other than the Grand Master who has the authority to appoint leaders of Clans and Houses. The Commander of the Guard is the closest advisor of the Grand Master, bringing all matters before the Grand Master that might need their attention, and helps in making decisions. As the right hand of the Grand Master, the Commander of the Guard executes the Grand Master's will. At the discretion of the Fleet Commander and the Grand Master, the Commander of the Guard may also be afforded the title of "Darth".

In practice, the Commander of the Guard (CG) performs activities as directed by the Grand Master. This can be the pursuit of special project as directed by the GM, managing the more day-to-day activities (such as roster actions, Discord server management, review of Monthly House Evaluations, etc.), or any other activity as directed by the GM. The CG is expected to be more involved in the practical realities of implementing the GM's vision.

Master-at-Arms

The Master-at-Arms is charged with maintaining the Operatives Roster and ensuring its accuracy. New members are processed by the Master-at-Arms and assigned to Houses appropriately. The Master-at-Arms is responsible for approving all rank promotions and position appointments within the Secret Order (apart from Dark Council roles), as well as transfers of members between Houses and Clans. Additionally, the Master-at-Arms is charged with the approval of submitted multiplayer matches, competitions, and any changes to the Applied Arms Manual. Furthermore, the Master-At-Arms has been charged with ensuring that feuding Clans and Houses follow the rules of the Art of Vendetta.

In practice, the MAA is tasked with both approving individual activity submissions (such as screenshots for PvE) as well as the methodology for accepting activity submissions and the criteria for what kind off activity will be accepted. Furthermore, the MAA must approve all competitions submitted by members, as well as being responsible for envisioning and implementing club-wide competitions (such as Vendettas). Finally, the MAA is the lowest member of the Dark Council that can perform roster actions.

Because of this large scope of work, the MAA is generally expected to always have an assigned Praetor, as well as the largest amount of magistrates.

Herald

The Herald of the Secret Order is in charge of all insignias and hallmarks carried by members of the Order, as issuing the Grant of Arms to each worthy member. The Herald also approves the custom lightsabers that all operatives may carry once they reach the required rank. Furthermore, the Herald approves the creation of any other crests, symbols, and/or insignia used by a unit of the Secret Order. In matters regarding the award, use, and distribution of Grants of Arms and Lightsabers, the Herald acts with full authority of the Grand Master.

In practice, the Herald (H) is tasked with updating all graphical elements of the Secret Order, including awards, robes, logos, heraldry, banners, and more. Additionally, the Herald is responsible for approving all creative works, which are a current requirement for reaching the rank of Knight and earning the right to carry a lightsaber openly. Finally, the Herald is responsible for publishing the Dark Voice and keeping all official documentation up-to-date, including (but not limited to) the Dark Side Compendium.

Assistants

Assistants are appointed by individual Dark Council members to aid them in their duties.

Praetor

Praetors (P) are the primary assistants to a council member. They take on whatever duties their superior assigns. Each Council member is permitted one Praetor, with the suggested rank of a Praetor being a Knight. The Praetor position is a full-time role, and Praetors are generally considered to be part of the Dark Council.

Magistrate

Magistrates (M) are the secondary assistants to a Council member. Magistrates take on what ever duties their superior assigns them. Unlike Praetors, Magistrates are part-time roles, which can be held by any member regardless of what "full-time" position they may have.

There is no official limit to the number of Magistrates a member of the Dark Council member may have, but all appointments must be approved by the Grand Master.
