Based in Marin County, California, Totally Games was founded in 1994 with their headquarters located in San Rafael, California. Originally Totally Games was founded in 1985 as a sole proprietorship by Lawrence Holland, who independently contracted with Lucesfilm Games to make Apple II and Commodore 64 versions of PHM Pegasus and Strike Fleet. Many years later, the sole proprietorship incorporated in 1993 under Peregrine Software which was later renamed to Totally Games in 1994. Their logo features a cartoon logo of the word Totally Games overlayed on a cartoon explosion graphic.

After almost 30 years in business, Totally Games created twenty different games, ranging from space shooters for PC, mobile game and browser games. Beginning with the Playstation Portable handheld system, Totally Games expanded their scope and also created games for the Nintendo Wii. Most notably their game Alien Syndrome for the Nintendo Wii. A theme park experience was created for an internet game called Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters, which commemorated the 50th anniversary of Disneyland.
