Biography[edit]

Maston was born during the time of the Republic on Dorin but only lived there a short time. He had little to no interest in the political dealings of the Galaxy, so he spent his younger years circumventing it where he could. Opting instead to fly a small cargo ship he would contract out, mostly for passengers in the Outer Rim, but occasionally smuggling when passenger fares were hard to come by. He had a refurbished HWK-290 light freighter and when times were tough it was an easy haul to move some spice from one system to the next.

While making smuggling runs into the Core worlds for the Son-tuul Pride syndicate during the early months of the Clone Wars, Maston came to hate the Republic. He found the use of Clone Troopers abhorrent, feeling that they were essentially slaves with only ten years to develop into soldiers. During one smuggling run from Oba Diah to Keeara Major, Maston stopped at Harrin to refuel his freighter. He witnessed a battle between Separatist battle droids and a company of Clone Troopers led by a Togruta Jedi. The planet was blockaded by a Separatist fleet and Maston was prevented from leaving by the Clone Troopers. Eventually, he escaped from the blockade and, with some creative navigating outside normal hyperspace lanes, still managed make his spice delivery on time.

During a trip to Coruscant, Maston experienced the corruption of the Republic firsthand. He spent time in both the upper and lower levels and saw no difference between the criminals he worked for and the Republic officials trying to stop people like him, with both groups going on with their lives as if the Clone Wars were not tearing the galaxy apart over whether or not being in the Republic was voluntary. Finally giving up on the Republic, Maston made his way to Separatist space and offered his services to their cause. He ended up working for a relief program, flying food and supplies to war-torn planets.

It was during this time that Maston was sent to a small planet in the Mid Rim called Bethel Vandenberg to deliver farming equipment. There he met a Rutian Twi'lek named Carset living on her own who he began frequently visiting. Each time bringing equipment to upgrade or fix something on her farm.

After the war ended he settled down to start a family on the farm but their genetic differences made it impossible to conceive children. Several years later a pestilence ravaged the planet, causing famine and disease to run rampant and resulted in the planets quarantine for the good of the galaxy by the Galactic Republic.

Ten years later the quarantine was finally lifted but by that time Maston's wife Carset had perished. Along with most of the planet. The ground had been poisoned and as a result about eighty percent of the planets population had died.

Over time, alone in his farm, Maston began blaming the Empire more and more for their decisive action to protect the galaxy. He left Bethel Vandenberg and began making his way back to the Outer Rim.

Eventually, Maston found his way to the Emperor's Hammer and enlisted in the TIE Corps as a starfighter pilot.
