A DUM-series droid or more often referred to as a Pit Droid, is a service droid often employed in ship repairs and labour.

Lug-Nut was first assigned to Newt, after they were found alongside their sibling droid Brush in a trash pile. Newt found them and proceeded to clean and repair the droids for use on the smuggling ship that Newt called home. Lug-nut from the moment they were turned on showed a rather strong personality, often times breaking themselves while attempting to lift a supply box far to heavy for their servos. Or when left alone without a task would be found walking around and banging on random pipes with a spanner in an attempt to "repair" things. These tendencies alongside Newt care to modify Lug-Nuts servos to handle heavier weights has allowed him to better do his role as a repair droid and labourer. Lug-Nut has since his first deployment stuck by Newt, from smuggling with pirates, to scavenging on Tusorix, to finally being deployed with the TIE Corps.
