Introduction[edit]
Below is a collection of links to resources for mission creation.
Imperial University Courses[edit]
The Mission Creation and Beta Testing Standards (MCBS) course is required as a prerequisite for all other platform design courses and required to function as a Tactical Surveyor within the Tactical Office.
A mission creator must have passed the misson design course for the platform they are creating for
- X-Wing Mission Design (XMD)
- TIE Fighter Mission Creation (TM/3)
- X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter Mission Design (XTM/1)
- X-Wing Alliance Mission Design (XAM)
Mission Editors[edit]
To be able to build a custom mission you will need to be able to create the specialized mission files needed by the games.
There used to be multiple mission editors but most have had there support discontinued. Currently YOGEME (Ye Olde Galactic Empire Mission Editor) is the only mission editor receiving regular updates and support.
Other mission editors may be used but may not support the latest features added by mods such as TIE Fighter Total Conversion.
- X-ED beta 2.62 by Troy Dangerfield +
- TIE Fighter Editor 1.28b by Mark Samios
- TIE Fighter Workshop 2.0b4 by Evan Sabatelli
- EH patch for TIE Fighter Workshop by HA Ender mBind
- XvtED 1.1 by Troy Dangerfield +
- AlliED 1.573 by Troy Dangerfield +
+ All software by Troy Dangerfield can be also downloaded from his website at troyed.com
Wiki Guides[edit]
The course notes of the various IU courses contain much guidance on how to make missions using the editors. But additional guides also exist outside those courses.
Internal Wiki[edit]
For a guide on the different functions of YOGEME, first refer to the help file built into the software but an additional guide has been written and placed on the EH Wiki, X-Wing Alliance Advanced Mission Creation - Note: This guide is a work in progress and is not complete
A guide on creating custom audio files for the missions is also available, X-Wing Alliance Add-Ons – Custom Audio Files. This guide is written primarily for XWA/TFTC but the techniques and methods are the same for TIE Fighter and XvT/BoP, just the exact file locations will be different.
For a guide on creating custom email messages for XWA/TFTC see X-Wing Alliance Add-Ons – Emails.
For a guide on TFTC Mission Creation see TFTC Custom Missions.
External Wiki[edit]
The XWAU Wiki is a good source of information on how to modify the game files for custom effects and also has some discussion on Flight Group Orders and other Mission Design topics.
Other Useful Software or Websites[edit]
XWA Tools[edit]
It is highly recommended to install the XWA Tools Package from the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project's website. These tools will enable you to do many things, not the least being able to create your own pilot files, look at and modify the craft .opt, look at and modify the .dat files and .cmb files in the game and many, many more things.
Audio Editor[edit]
Audacity is a free open-source audio editing software package available for anyone to download.
Text-To-Speech[edit]
Amazon Web Services, at the time of the writing of this guide, offers a 12-month free trial of many of their software packages normally meant for website backend services. One of the software packages is Amazon Polly, a TTS package.
Other free, or limited trial, online TTS services that are available are SpeechGen.io, FreeTTS, ElevenLabs, and 101SoundBoards.
