Identification (ID) lines are a legacy system for displaying a member’s position, rank, location within the fleet (i.e., unit hierarchy), medals/awards, and Imperial University training courses completed. A member's database-backed personnel record now contains the authoritative information concerning this information for a member, however ID lines are still sometimes used as a concise format for communicating this information. ID lines (including a shortened form displaying only the member's relevant position, rank, and unit assignment information) are typically used on all official EH emails and other communications (including reports). This process ensures that members will know exactly with whom they are communicating. It is considered good email etiquette to only use one ID line in per email. This pertains to members belonging to more than one subgroup. Each subgroup has slight variations in the ID line format. Subgroup-specific ID line information can be found in each group's respective policy manual.

As of 2022, the website-generated ID line is considered the authoritative method for displaying ID lines.

General Format

The general format for displaying an Emperor's Hammer or TIE Corps ID Line is:

Position/Rank + Name/Position Designation/Unit Hierarchy Medal-Abbreviations [Ratings] {IU Courses}

An example ID line might look like:

FM/LT Joe/Alpha 2-2/Wing I/ISDII Hammer/Battlegroup I BS/PC/ISMx2 [Fusilier] [Private 3rd] {TCCORE}

As you may have noticed, the actual ID line and the four tail sections are separated. The member identification and medal sections are separated by forward slashes (/). Square brackets are used to designated Fleet Commander's Honor Guard (FCHG) and Combat Rating (PvP/PvE) ranks. Curly brackets designated Imperial University training courses completed and approved for display in the particular subgroup's ID lines.

Here is a more comprehensive example of a Command Staff member:

COMM/FA Jarek La’an/CS-3(a)/ARQ Herald IC/GOE/GSx6/SSx8/BSx18/PCx17/ISMx22/IAR/MoI/MoC-7doc-6poc-7goc-10soc-66boc/MUA/IS-11GW-12SW-21BW-PR-18GR-24SR-50BR/ORA/LoC-1PS/LoS-1PS/CoLx14/CoB/LoAx91/OV-19E [Optio] [Elite 3rd] [Ranger 4th] {TCCORE-MCBS-MP/1-SM/3/5-TM/2-XAM}

When ID lines start to grow in size like the above example it is common practice to divide it into multiple lines:

COMM/FA Jarek La’an/CS-3(a)/ARQ Herald
IC/GOE/GSx6/SSx8/BSx18/PCx17/ISMx22/IAR/MoI/MoC-7doc-6poc-7goc-10soc-66boc/MUA/IS-11GW-12SW-21BW-PR-18GR-24SR-50BR/ORA/LoC-1PS/LoS-1PS/CoLx14/CoB/LoAx91/OV-19E
[Optio] [Elite 3rd] [Ranger 4th]
