The sight of an Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer entering orbit above a planet was usually all that it requires for the local government to fall in line with the Empire’s demands as each ISDII was an instantly recognizable symbol of the power and might of the Fleet.
Feared and rightfully so, the ISDII carried a complement of 72 TIEs, 20 All Terrain Armored Transports (AT-ATs) and many other mechanized infantry support vehicles. With a crew of over 27,000 enlisted crew, 9,000 officers and almost 10,000 stormtroopers, it could conquer planets and enemy defensive forces with prompt action without the need of reinforcements. With more than 25.000 units deployed, it serves as a reminder of the size of the Empire at its peak.
Given the spread use of the ISDII in the galaxy, it was rarely seen in groups. These groups, however, were normally led by an Super-Class Star Destroyer as flagship and five to ten Imperial -class Star Destroyers. Most of the ISDs were later retrofitted to ISDIIs, exponentially augmenting the power of the Fleet. There are two notable squadrons that cannot be ignored: the Death Squadron, Darth Vader’s personal armada, with his flagship the Super-class Star Destroyer Executor, Imperial-class Star Destroyers Conquest and ISD Devastator, and ISDII Avenger, Tyrant, Ultimatum and Stalker.
The Emperor’s Hammer Strike Fleet uses dozens of ISDIIs, of note today the ISDIIs Challenge, Grey Wolf, Hammer, Relentless and Warrior.
