Position Description
According to the Training Manual the Science Officer (or SCO) is "responsible for maintaining the patch archive and Fleet Manual, providing evaluation, correction and final approval all new patches. ALL new EH fighter/transport/capital ship designs must first be approved by the SCO prior to review and posting to the Fleet. The Science Officer also is responsible for being current and knowledgeable on upcoming gaming technologies and mission creators/editors to be released for the Star Wars genre, including the development and release of new platforms for the EH."
In summary , the Science Officer is responsible for the creation and development of EH related games.
History
The position of Science Officer was created by Grand Admiral Ronin in Emperor's Hammer News Letter #26.
Up until 2002 the position description in the Training Manual was: "The Science Officer supervises the Research and Development conducted by the Corporate Division for use by the Emperor's Hammer Fleet. Corporate submissions (and ALL new Corporate Picket Fleet fighter/capital ship designs) must first be approved by the SCO prior to review and posting in the Newsletters. The Science Officer also is responsible for being current and knowledgeable on upcoming gaming technologies and mission creators/editors to be released for the Star Wars genre."
Quickly the weight of the job shifted towards making and managing patches for the TIE Corps, especially after Shadow Works, the Corporate Division Ship Yards, closed down. By the time the Corporate Division link was removed from the Training Manual position description the Science Office hadn't had any connection to that Subgroup for many years.
