TIE Corps[edit]

"Wow. Where do I begin with our firery LT Kate? Well, let's start with this: In 5 years of EH service, I have never, ever *ever* seen a LT with such amazing ability and activity. Wow."
- Locke Setzer, ISD Challenge Commodore

Kate Flyer's first assignment was to Typhoon Squadron aboard the ISD Challenge. She quickly distinguished herself as an active pilot and was given command of a newly re-opened Cyclone Squadron. As the first Cyclone commander in nearly two years, Kate defined the look and attiude of the squadron while leading it to numerous wins in squadron and wing competitions as well as events such as SSL 2005.

As Cyclone Squadron became known as a squadron on par with the likes Praetorian Squadron, Kate was promoted to Commodore and given command of the Challenge. Unfortunately, events conspired to see Kate demoted to Lieutenant and stripped of her medals. After a nearly two year absence, Kate has returned to the squadron she helped open to rebuild her reputation and her career.

Biography[edit]

I killed your master, and now I'm going to kill you, with your
own sword, which in the very immediate future, will become my sword
- Flyer's Favorite Quote

Born to Blu and Vail Blaize Flyer, immigrants to Imperial City from Corellia, Katherine (though she rather prefers Kate) had a relatively unremarkably childhood. While she attended Imperial public schools, her father, a retired starfighter pilot, and mother worked odd jobs and did their best to make a living.

When she was a child, Kate loved to listen to her father regail her with tales of adventure, great deeds and amazing space battles among the stars. A distant relation to the famed Cantors of Corellia, she sometimes even recieved word of their distant exploits.

When Kate finally turned 18, she eagerly put in her application to the Imperial Academy to become a TIE Pilot. To her dismay, she was summarily rejected. Suddenly lost, Kate fell into depression and worked several odd jobs until, one day, she met a pilot named Kiru Darkfire.

Kiru wiped dishes at a local diner with Kate, and like Kate, she had been rejected from the Imperial Academy. While they worked, Kiru told Kate that the Imperial Academy was a sexist institution, that they had been rejected for simply being women. But there was a solution. Kiru was saving up for a pair of reconditioned starfighters. If they threw in their lot together, they could achieve their mutal dreams of leaving Coruscant and driving into space.

Kate was delighted with the notion. Her parents were less-so. They begged, cajoled, even bribed Kate to stay out of "pirate's work." But Flyer was adamant, and went out to apply for the loan to purchase a starfighter. Although Vail was dismayed that his daughter was going 'independent,' he was secretly pleased to see her finally pursuing her passion. The night before he left, he gave her his blessing, and passed on his blaster and his wings from his days as a Republican pilot. The next day, Kate purchased her first fighter.

It was a miracle that Kate and Kiru weren't shot down, burned or otherwise fizzled in those first, few heady months. With their paltry sum, they were only able to purchase a reconditioned Z-95 Headhunter (for Kate) and a barely salvageable Y-wing (for Kiru). Worse, many smugglers openy laughed them out of their offices when the two, youngish girls approached them and offered to escort their freighters through hostile space.

At last, frustrated and nearly broke, they were about to give up when the rangy Rodian smuggler Ferudo took pity on them and allowed them to join his organization.

The work under Ferudo was hard and paid poorly. Expecting adventure, Kate instead found herself playing cards in her cockpit as she escorted one convoy after another. Meanwhile, on the other side of the galaxy, the Empire was pursuing the last remnants of the Rebellion from their secret base on Hoth. What she wouldn't give to fly on Lord Vader's wing, blasting X-wings and Y-wing out of space..

At last, on what seemed the dullest of missions, Kate caught her break. Rebels appeared to interdict and steal a cargo of starfighter parts that Ferudo was running as part of his legimitate business, and Kate engaged. Kate suddenly founded herself in a whirling, twisting, intoxicating world of starfighter combat. Kate even managed to distinguish herself when Ferudo, desperate to escape the Rebels, unloaded his secret spice cargo and tried to make a run for it. Suffering fire from far-superior X-wing starfighters, Kate was nevertheless able to recover the valuable spice and personally deliver it to Jabba the Hutt with Kiru.

Ferudo was furious!

When Kate arrived to extract her payment from the Hutt, Ferudo did his best to minimize his role in the disaster while blaming the incident on Kate. They argued furiously in front of the Huttese lord as the court protocol droid struggled to keep up.

Jabba was surprised to see this human woman, small and unafraid, standing boldly against him in the middle of his own court. She rebuffed his advances as she fearlessly negotiated the price for the recovered spice, always aware of the hundreds of terrifying, inhuman eyes staring from every corner of the court and the hungry Rancor resting below her feet.

Finally, Jabba made his decision. Kate was awarded with a regular job. Ferudo was fed to the Rancor.

With her earnings, Kate was finally able to update her venerable Headhunter to a respectable X-wing, which she named the Flyer Mark 1. Suddenly flush with success, a degree of notoriety and even a little money, Kate felt that things were finally working out for her. Over the next several years, Kate would become a valued member of the court, flying many missions for the crime syndicate while deftly dodging Jabba's temper.

Everything seemed to going so well. Then, Kate's life imploded.

Kate was running a mission when she recieved word that Jabba was dead, slain by the rebel criminal Luke Skywalker and his gang. Almost as bad was when the news came from Endor that the Rebels had murdered the Emperor and Lord Vader.

Her employer dead and the underworld in sudden disarray, Kate and Kiru's prospects suddenly dried up. Her livelihood shorn away, Kate hungered for revenge against Skywalker and the Rebellion.

Two years later, she would have her opportunity.

Kate said her goodbyes to Kiru and struck off on her own, at last arriving at the EH held world of Aurora Prime. The crew of the ISD Challenge hardly knew what to make of his bold woman who had flown an X-wing into the very heart of Imperial-held space. Kate flatly denied being a rebel, and requested to turn over her X-wing and become an Imperial Pilot.

At last, the Imperial authority decided to treat her arrival as a defection, and turned her over to the Imperial Weapons and Tactics School for further training as an Imperial Pilot.

Kate was finally about to fulfill her dream as a TIE Pilot.

Kate was assigned to Typhoon Squadron, and quickly distinguished herself as an able pilot. In her first month, Kate managed an impressive 31 confirmed kills, bested only by her droid squadmate TK-9780. Kate was awarded a Bronze Star and quickly began to gain notoriety as a skillful, arrogant and ambitious starfighter pilot.

Kate hadn't completely left her past behind, though. During a routine escort mission, an A-wing was capture from a rebel raiding party. Kate was shocked to discover that the pilot was Kiru Darkfire, now a pilot in the New Republic. Kiru would later escape from Imperial custody and attempt to entice Kate into following her to the rebellion, but Kate rebuffed her. The two would meet one more time in the shadow of the CRS Ad Astra, where Kiru met her end at the point of one of Kate's advanced concussion missiles.

Hardly able to believe that she had shot down her best friend, Kate rededicated herself to the Emperor's Hammer. Just two months later, Kate was a commander at the helm of the newly reopened Cyclone Squadron, and filled with a renewed sense of purpose.

When she took command of Cyclone, Kate quickly discovered that it had once been the command of Keirdagh "Yacko" Cantor, a former Dark Jedi Master in the Dark Brotherhood who had gone rogue. Intrigued, and perhaps a little frightened, by the connection, Kate began to further investigate the distant relatives with which she shared her name.

Over the course of her search, Kate was able to recruit Tovalaron Cantor "Fink" Jerel, a former Emperor's Hammer ace, into Cyclone while picking up many clues regarding the whereabouts of the rest of her family. Fully aware that many of them have joined the Rogue Dark Brotherhood, Fink has begun to counsel Kate toward an eventual confrontation with her wayward relations.

After many months as one of the top commanders in the fleet, Kate was approached by the TCBG Commander and offered command of the ISD Challenge. Kate had never commanded a ship before, but she was willing to accept the challenge. With all of the resources of a mighty Imperial Star Destroyer at her command, she was prepared to ascend to the greatest heights of the Imperium. Then tragedy struck.

Asked for help by several friends in a new Imperial territory, Kate was accused of defection and ejected from the Emperor's Hammer. Though she tried to make her way with the new group for several months, she eventually drifted off into the stars to seek a new destiny.

A message from an old friend brought her back to Coruscant, where she found her father dead. When she heard that her father had heard of her exploits in the EH, and of how proud of her he was, she couldn't bear to tell her mother what had happened. Instead, she went back to space, ready to rejoin the Empire.

The Empire welcomed Kate back with open arms, but her medals were stripped away and she was busted back down to Lieutenant. A lowly flight member in the squadron she helped to create, Kate has neverthless rediscovered her love of flying, and is ready to assist Cyclone Squadron any way she can.

On the right, you can see Kate Flyer's uniform. Though against regulations, she likes to keep her throwing dagger with her at all times. It has been useful in many different instances, most recently when she was forced to destroy an assasin droid that had been posing as a protocol droid.

Her flight helmet, custom-painted white, sports her family crest, which is a Corellian hawk flight. The name is said to have come into being the day that ancestor and great patriarch Lance Ryan caught and tamed one of the majestic birds and added the honorific 'Flyer'. Kate also likes to keep her blaster and throwing knives with her at all times.
