Pryde had a tough childhood with his first memory being an attack on his freighter when he was just 3 years old.

His time on school wasn't easy either. Still traumatized, he had to deal with fights, teasing and humiliations by his instructors. When he was 11, he was about to be expelled for behavioral issues and he was sent to an institution for "incorrigible youth" with the purpose of rewiring his behavior. It did help somehow but in the long run, it caused more issues than it solved. He learned basic mechanical skills and as able to work on droids and smaller machines. By the time he left the institution he had an advanced grasp of battlemech and aerofighter structures and systems.
