Advocatus Diaboli

From Emperor's Hammer Encyclopaedia Imperia

History:[edit]

Diaboli was born and raised in a industrial complex, deep within the Minos Cluster. His father and mother were a happy couple and families were common despite the isolated and cramped conditions. For years the business was peaceful. But the conflict between the Empire and New Republic came from the stars. TegheRath Corporation was a small faction and easily subdued by pirate force that was exploiting the conflict. FAC TegheRath 5 was predominantly a factory for producing various mechanical precision instruments and therefore a good place to loot. The families were separated and the place was turned to slavelabor. Resisting brought swift punishment. The slavers didn't hesitate to use electro-whips. Diaboli carries the scars on his back to his day. Children were forced to operate the tugs to transport material in and out of the FAC, they were expendable. This is how Diaboli had his first experience in spaceflight. This is also how he was able to see with his own eyes as EH Strike Fleet came from hyperspace and layed waste to the pirate ships. TegheRath 5 was liberated, but the pirates had already transported Diaboli's parents somewhere and the data was lost with the burning pirate ships.

The need to find his parents drove Diaboli to join the TIE Corps. He enlisted to the Academy, barely passing the physical examination due to his weak frame. His above-average reflexes and seemingly natural aptitude on starfighter controls helped to balance this. PLT Daedalus was one of the first positive experiences after gaining his freedom. Diaboli didn't make any friends, preferring to keep his own company. This earned him a reputation as a loner, a negative person, which suited him just fine.

Career in TIE Corps:[edit]

Diaboli started his flying career on the now disbanded Iota squadron. Iota was an escort squadron on ISD Colossus. First sorties were basic tasks, with long and boring patrols. One highlight was the assault on newly discovered planet Prosidia, where a technologically backwards (no hyperspace technology) Prosidian race managed to resist Imperial rule. Prosidia was negotiationg with New Republic, and on the verge of opening trade- and technological relationships. ISD Colossus interfered with the process. NR lost its diplomatic Ambassador Calamari Cruiser, which crashlanded on Prosidia, but Colossus and her support vessels were forced to withdraw. Prosidia was subsequently attacked with artificial meteors and its terrain reduced to ash waste.

Iota's commander Kadon Beir took it to himself to mentor Diaboli, seeing that there was potential in him. Soon Diaboli was promoted to Omicron squadron's commander, only to step down after almost two Tours of Duty. There were no problems, as such. Omicron claimed decisive victories. Being a leader was not his strongest point, therefore he chose to replace his command with a more capable leader of men.

A long campaign on a remote planet Dhar'hyyk took its toll on Diaboli. Wing X was deployed to re-establishing Emperor's Hammer rule on the planet. This called for using loyal Dhar'hyykian airbases and airdromes, located at the main continent's deserts. Dhar'hyykian raw materials were essential to EH-fleets operations. Thus a decisive and powerful show of force was needed. Wing X committed all of its squadrons to prevent the massive aerial onslaught on loyalist military bases. Diaboli scored multiple skills, as did every other pilot, due to the huge numbers of enemy fighters. Finally, the time come to be on the offensive. All squadron attacked the two strategic starports, which were in hostile control. During the attack, Omicron faced one of the enemy's elite squadrons, Shakohar Squadron, and was hard-pressed to reach its objective. Diaboli lost his TIE Defender, but managed to shoot down the elite squadron's leader Fezez Ar'haak. Jettisoning and landing right on enemy air base seemed to be the worst idea, right after 'Omicron' had bombed the starport to pieces. The landing didn't go as practiced, as Diaboli injured both knees. He was captured, but not interrogated. The downed elite-leader Ar'haak made sure he had the best care Dhar'hyykians could offer. Diaboli received new artificial knees.

At this time, Diaboli was believed to have been KIA'd during the assault on the spaceport. He was promoted posthumously to Major, and Omicron Squadron even performed a missing-man flyby over their Dhar'hyykian airbase Echo Eight. Flight recorders from Omicron's surviving starfighters revealed that Diaboli's last kill had made it possible to complete the assault. The hostile elite-leader had been seconds away from killing Lieutenant Colonel Tiger, just before he was releasing the last bombs on the attack run. Tiger's succesfull attack destroyed the main target: shield projector.

However, the Dhar'hyykin elite-leader contacted ISD Challenge's Commodore, at that time acting-Commodore Bonini (Commodore Coranel Both had been critically injured in an assassination attempt on Dhar'hyyk), and arranged for a pickup for Diaboli. The offer was intended to show he was willing to help Emperor's Hammer in ending the conflict as quickly as possible. It was political maneuvering that saved Diaboli's life and healed his injuries. It took two weeks of intense habilitiation before Diaboli could walk. Three more weeks of excercise before he was fit enough to fly again. His exemplary performance during the Air Campaign made sure his posthumous promotion to Major-rank was not revoked.

Then, after a steady streak of high activity, he advanced to become Omega squadron's commander, under the careful observation of High Admiral Frodo March. Further information is deemed classified.

Diaboli is currently a Flight Leader back on Omicron squadron, trying to keep a low profile.

Beside his record as a pilot, Diaboli has suffered outside active service. During his R&R on a remote ex-mining colony Begg, he lost his right eye in a mugging. The robbers were never caught. Fortunately, ISD Colossus' medical team was able to implant an artificial eye, thus preventing a long cessation from service. The new eye enables Diaboli to see on spectrums previously unseen to him. It also increases his performance as pilot, as display and telemetry data can be directed straight to it.

After returning to Omicron from Omega, it became known that Diaboli had gained a neuro-link; a neural implant on the back of the neck. This makes it possible to connect with dataterminals and even with most droids. It is suspected that the neuro-link is needed to pilot TIE Guardians, the handful of starfighters in existence, reserved for elite squadrons.

Current Status[edit]

Diaboli has returned to Omega squadron after an invitation by its current commander, Colonel Keldorn Cochrane, was reissued. Competitions keeps him committed to fleet activities (flying and history-based projects), and hopefully convinces his superiors of his "unwavering" loyalty to the Corps. Diaboli does his best to hide his past.
