Aggressor Strike Force
The Aggressor Strike Force ("ASF") was a battlegroup in the TIE Corps that featured the ISD Grey Wolf, ISD Intrepid, ISD Vanguard, ISD Predator, and Avenger Squadron. Its primary focus was on Multiplayer activity.
Brief History[edit]
The Aggressor Strike Force was created out of the Aggressor Wing, a unit originally created within the TIE Corps to promote multiplayer activity specifically for the newly-released X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. The popularity of this platform and multiplayer activity in general led to the creation of a dedicated battlegroup with its own ships, starting with the Grey Wolf and Intrepid, before expanding to the Vanguard and eventually the Predator. For the majority of its time as an active Battlegroup, the ISD Grey Wolf served as its flagship.
This battlegroup was formed with the expectation that MP activity would be the driving activity type. Competitions within this battlegroup typically revolved around MP for for X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and, upon its release, X-Wing Alliance. MP matches would be set up and organized using IRC or Microsoft's Gaming Zone (with pilots on the Zone encouraged to use "EH_" in front of their names - perhaps the first appearance of the "club tag" by the EH).
As part of its multiplayer focus, the ASF featured its own Elite Squadron within the TIE Corps - Avenger Squadron. This squadron, assigned to its own ship (the VSD Aggressor), focused specifically on developing the best possible roster of MP players in the fleet.
Over time, the reliance on multiplayer became a burden, as the online community for these games dropped and there was less interest in maintaining units of the club that were devoted to one style of gaming versus another. Eventually, the Aggressor Strike Force was closed, with remaining pilots being placed on the Vanguard, which was then incorporated into the TIE Corps Battlegroups.
Legacy[edit]
While none of the former Aggressor Strike Force ships have officially opened, the ISD Grey Wolf is currently assigned to Battlegroup I and may be activated at any time.
Additionally, Avenger Squadron has been repurposed as a command detachment squadron, allowing members of the TIE Corps and Emperor's Hammer Admiralty to temporarily operate as a squadron for fleetwide competitions such as Raise the Flag. Avenger Squadron technically remains stationed on the VSD Aggressor.
