Aggressor Wing

From Emperor's Hammer Encyclopaedia Imperia

The Aggressor Wing was the earlier name and setup of the later Aggressor Strike Force, the TIE Corps Multiplayer Taskforce.

History[edit]

The Aggressor Wing was founded in 1997 <ref>Newsletter #34</ref> to accomodate "the Emperor’s Hammer’s elite pilots who utilize X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter to combat the Rebel Squadrons and any other clubs, EH-based or not."<ref>Newsletter #47</ref>. It was a semi-seperate structure alongside the TIE Corps and membership was indicated by an [AW] tag in the TIE Corps ID line. The Aggressor Wing was under the command of the Aggressor Wing Commander (AW:COM).

To join the Aggressor Wing a member needed to qualify. A Combat Qualifier would meet the Trainee in question on IRC and would host a game of X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. The two flew a single game, with both pilots flying TIE Fighters. The results of the match determined whether or not the Trainee could become Qualified. Later on the qualification included flying a six mission battle.

From the start of the Aggressor Wing there was a movement away from the pilots being strewn all over the fleet towards structure similar to the TIE Corps. Eventually this lead to the full incorporation of the Aggressor Wing into the TIE Corps - where it was renamed the Aggressor Strike Force.

Units and Ships[edit]

AW:COM FA Bull first was assigned the VSD Aggressor as his flagship. When he also acquired the ISD Intrepid that became the new flagship while the VSD Aggressor was assigned to the newly formed Aggressor Wing elites, Avenger Squadron. The ISD Vanguard was a later addition to the AW fleet. Besides the elites the Aggressor Wing also consisted of several squadrons.
