DB:Dark Side Compendium Lightsabers

Lightsabers in the Secret Order are more than just a weapon - they are also a mark of prestige and status. While any member of the Secret Order can be trained in its use, only members that have achieved the rank of Knight may wear their saber openly.

The right to wear the saber openly is granted to any Secret Order member that has achieved the rank of Knight, even when serving within other units in the Emperor's Hammer, such as the TIE Corps or the Hammer's Fist.

In order to achieve the rank of Knight, members of the Secret Order must complete the relevant Shadow Academy courses, as well as two creative works: one detailing how their lightsaber pieces were discovered, and another detailing how their lightsaber was constructed.

First Steps: Learning about Lightsabers

Before attempting to acquire pieces of a lightsaber to assemble, members are first expected to complete the prerequisite lightsaber course in the Shadow Academy that will teach them about the components of the lightsaber - Lightsaber Construction.

Using the knowledge gained in this course, members should now be capable of creating a creative work that details how their character has obtained the pieces needed to assemble a lightsaber. Creative works may be a piece of fiction, artwork, music, epic poem, or any other sort of creative endevour that details how the member was able to obtain the necessary parts to assemble their lightsaber.

Questions related to this first creative work and its requirements should be directed to the Herald.

Once completed, the first creative work should be submitted through the associated Shadow Academy course - Secret Order Creative Work #1

Next Steps: Assembling your Lightsaber

Upon completion of the first creative work, members may proceed with assembling their lightsaber and completing their lightsaber training. There is no required order, but both must be completed in order for the member to be eligible for the rank of Knight.

The two Shadow Academy courses that must be completed in order to be elevated to Knight are: - Lightsaber Techniques - A course on the fundamentals of using a lightsaber - Lightsaber: Training Saber - A course designed around use of the training saber in live practice

Additionally, the second creative work must be completed. In the second creative work, members will detail how they have managed to assemble their lightsaber, using the pieces they obtained in the first creative work. Like the previous creative work, this second creative work may be a piece of fiction, artwork, music, epic poem, or any other sort of creative endevour that details how the member managed to assemble their lightsaber. As always, any questions related to the creative work should be directed to the Herald.

Once completed, the second creative work should be submitted through the associated Shadow Academy course - Secret Order Creative Work #2.

Final Steps: Achieving the Necessary Rank

All requirements for obtaining a lightsaber that a member may wear openly can be completed at any time - there is no time in rank that must be completed before starting. However, elevation to the rank of Knight (and all ranks before it) still come with required time and experience point requirements. Note that the first steps (Creative Work #1 and Lightsaber Construction) must be completed before a member can be elevated to the rank of Squire, the last rank before Knight.

Wearing your Saber

Upon achieving the rank of Knight, a member of the Secret Order is invited to wear their lightsaber openly, on any uniform issued to them in the Emperor's Hammer. This is a lifetime benefit - available to members regardless of whether or not they are active members of the Secret Order or currently reside in the Rogues.
