Appearance
A dark-brown furred Bothan, Pobyn stands at 1.52m tall (5', tall for a Bothan). His facial features are pointed and chiseled, and his facial hair is worn long and loose, like most males in his clan.
Biography
Thaas was born in 15BBY to the Po family of clan Ubyn (his last name is properly written Po'Byn) in Tun Wala, capital city of the planet Arda-2. The Byn clan was the only Bothan clan located on the small industrialized planet, and was involved in starship manufacturing, specifically the manufacture of advanced targeting computers.
The Byn clan was generally poor, as was most of Arda-2, and the Po family was no exception. They were able to scrape by, but generally lived from week to week in the lower class housing blocks in central Tun Wala, not far from many major industrial factories. By the age of 12, Thaas was already spending time working in those factories.
In the years after the Battle of Yavin, Thaas's uncle Koskit Fey'byn joined the Bothan Spy Network in hopes of breaking away from the poor lifestyle he and his family had been living. Fey'byn was among the Bothan spies who infiltrated the second Death Star, confirming it's location and discovering that it was in fact shielded, but that the main SuperLaser was not yet functional (the latter which turned out to be false). While attempting to rendezvous with the Alliance to deliver this information, the freighter Fey'byn was aboard was intercepted and destroyed by the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Accuser. Pobyn has felt that the Fey'byn's sacrifice was never properly acknowledged, or compensated, by the Alliance.
Nearly 10 months after the Battle of Endor, the Stenax Massacres began. Arda-2 was decimated by the Stenax, and little or no trace was left of many families, clans, or even cities. Thaas was lucky enough to be spending time on a test Corvette, testing new Targeting Technologies as a junior technician when the massacres began. He has never been able to determine what happened to the Ubyn clan, though no trace of them was left on Arda-2 after the Stenax menace had finally been quelled. Thaas has blamed the Rebel Alliance for weakening the Galactic Empire enough to let the Stenax Massacre occur.
In the years since the Stenax Massacres, Thaas wandered the Mid and Outer rims, finding odd jobs here and there in small starcraft building and repair, as well as programming small starship components and targeting systems, as he had been trained to do for years. Finally, in 16ABY, Thaas stumbled upon the Aurora system and the Emperor's Hammer. Still angry at the Alliance, Thaas welcomed the opportunity to join the Hammer and repay the New Republic for the ills they had brought upon him and his family.
Current Status
Major Thaas Pobyn is currently the Wing Commander of Wing XIX aboard the ISD Subjugator, and is professor of the Graphics [GFX], and X-Wing vs. TIE-Fighter Tactics [XTT] IWATS Courses.
