The Order of the Vanguard (OV) is a service medal of the Emperor's Hammer. It is awarded to members for extended service in the Emperor's Hammer fleet.
Criteria
The Order of the Vanguard is awarded to members for extended service in the fleet. It is granted for each year of service in the Emperor's Hammer as determined by the member's date of initial membership. The Order with Second Echelon [OV-2E] is granted for the second year, with subsequent years following the same format.
Award Authority
Not applicable; the Order of the Vanguard is administratively awarded automatically by the web site database system.
Order of Precedence
For historical reasons the Order of the Vanguard is displayed on ID lines and uniforms separately from other Emperor's Hammer service medals, and is positioned after all commendations.
Historical Notes
The OV was originally a TIE Corps-only medal that had to be specifically requested from the Operations Officer along with the join date of the member. With the coming of the TIE Corps database, this medal was now awarded automatically. In addition, it was expanded to Dark Brotherhood members as well, due to the fact that the Brotherhood site is based off the code for the TIE Corps site. This medal has also been adapted into the Directorate and the Hammer's Fist.

The uniform ribbon for the OV starts at the base red ribbon with no device which represents one year of service.
A silver pip is added each additional year. The following ribbon is worn for the OV-5E.
A gold pip represents five years. The following ribbon is worn for the OV-6E.
A blue pip represents ten years. The following ribbon is worn for the OV-11E.
Over time, the pips can really add up. The following ribbon is worn for the OV-20E.
