Inception[edit]
Announcement posted by HA Plif on February 17th, 2023:
Occasionally, veteran pilots want to be part of the community more than they can from the Reserves but less than an active‑duty squadron with its usual operational tempo.
Some pilots want to participate in Corps‑wide events but do their own thing the rest of the time, especially if they have other TC or EH primary roles.
To appeal to these pilots, Spectre Squadron was launched. Spectre remains assigned to Wing XVIII on the SSD Avenger, separated from the three active battlegroups so it can operate independently.
Spectre participates in Corps‑wide competitions but does not contribute to battlegroup standings, similar to how Avenger Squadron has operated in recent Raise the Flags and Squadron (Re)Mobilizations.
Spectre upholds the same AWOL and Involuntary Reserves standards as other active‑duty squadrons. Though positioned as a compromise between active duty and the Reserves, it is run as an active‑duty unit.
The main difference is the lack of squadron and battlegroup competitions, though pilots are encouraged to participate in Corps‑level activities, major events, and combat ratings.
This provides an option for pilots in Inactive or Reserve status to return to the active roster.
To lead a squadron focused on veterans, HA Plif selected himself as commander, supported by IO/FA Turtle Jerrar (dual profile) and SOO/AD John T. Clark as SQXO.
