Avenger Task Force
The Avenger Task Force ("ATF") was a battlegroup in the TIE Corps that primarily served as a home for members who were both part of the TIE Corps and members of the Dark Brotherhood.
While it initially only featured the SSD Avenger, it would eventually expand to include the ISD Subjugator before its closure.
Origins[edit]
The Avenger Task Force was founded when Flight Officer AD Kawolski reorganized the TIE Corps into four distinct battlegroups: the Sovereign Task Force, the TIE Corps Battlegroups ("TCBG"), the Aggressor Strike Force ("ASF"), and the Avenger Task Force. Unlike the TCBG and the ASF, which focused primarily on play style (SP for TCBG, MP for ASF), the Avenger Task Force was intended to be for members of the Dark Brotherhood who were also members of the TIE Corps.
While members of the TIE Corps had always been allowed to be members of the Dark Brotherhood (a unique arrangement for subgroup membership at the time the ATF was founded), the Avenger Task Force represented the first time that they were given a dedicated TIE Corps unit of their own. Initially, only members of the Dark Brotherhood (who were also members of the TIE Corps) could be assigned to the Avenger Task Force. While this requirement would eventually be softened, command positions (including Battlegroup Commander, Commodore, and Wing Commander) would continue to require membership in the Dark Brotherhood until the battlegroup's closure.
Initially, the only ship in the Avenger Task Force was the SSD Avenger, which now had the dual purpose of being both the flagship for the battlegroup and the flagship for the Dark Brotherhood as a whole. Eventually, the ISD Subjugator would be added to the battlegroup, giving the Avenger Task Force a second ship and bringing it up to three wings.
The Exodus of members of the Dark Brotherhood impacted the ATF likely more than any other unit in the TIE Corps. It would arguably lead to the closure of the Subjugator, and in the years that followed, the closure of the unit as a whole.
The remaining members of the Avenger were moved to the re-activated Subjugator, which was reassigned to the TIE Corps Battlegroups, serving as the "representative" of the now-shuttered Avenger Task Force.
Legacy[edit]
Upon Grand Admiral Rapier's decision to to split the Emperor's Hammer Strike Fleet into two forces, the Avenger would once again be reactivated for service as the flagship of the First Recon Division (effectively making it the flagship of the Emperor's Hammer once again). While not technically part of a Battlegroup, some references to the SSD Avenger and its support ships may be referred to casually as the "Avenger Task Force".
