Avenger

The Executor-Class Star Dreadnaught Avenger currently serves as the flagship of the First Recon Division and is the command ship for the current iteration of the Emperor's Hammer Command Staff and the Dark Council of the Secret Order.

It has previously served as flagship to the Emperor's Hammer and the Dark Brotherhood subgroup, at times being incorporated as part of the Avenger Task Force battlegroup.

History

The Avenger was originally commissioned to replace its namesake, the ISD Avenger. It took over from the older Avenger as the Hammer's flagship, and, at the time, held Wings I and II. It served in the role as flagship until it itself was replaced by the SSSD Sovereign.

The Avenger would reappear however when the TIE Corps were reorganized into four distinct battlegroups: the Sovereign Task Force, the TIE Corps Battlegroups, the Aggressor Strike Force, and the Avenger Task Force. The Avenger was assigned under the Avenger Task Force, with the ship given over to the Grand Master of the Dark Brotherhood to serve as both their flagship.

While technically still a TIE Corps unit, as originally conceived, all TIE Corps offers serving onboard the ship as command officers and pilots were also members of the Dark Brotherhood. While this requirement would remain in effect for flag officers, it would eventually be deprecated for pilots. Nevertheless, the majority of population onboard the Avenger would continue to be Dark Brotherhood members for the duration of its time as a flagship for the subgroup.

The Exodus of members of the Dark Brotherhood would play havoc with the membership of the Avenger, and in time it would be closed to active membership.

Upon the decision by Grand Admiral Rapier to split the Emperor's Hammer Strike Fleet into two forces, the Avenger would be called into action once more, this time as the flagship of the First Recon Division, the force tasked with venturing into the Unknown Regions and facing the potential threats detected by GA Rapier. In practice, this decision means that the SSD Avenger currently operates once more as the flagship of the Emperor's Hammer.

In 2023, HA Plif reactivated Spectre Squadron as a special unit for members of the TIE Corps Command Staff and long-time veterans who wished to join a less active unit, once again giving the Avenger an active squadron.

The SSD Avenger has traditionally been the home of Wing XVIII and Wing XIX. At presently, only Spectre Squadron under Wing XVIII is active. Nevertheless, while most of these wings and their squadrons are not currently active, they remain part of the ship and its order of battle.
