Readme Background[edit]

Some of my favorite stories in the XWA database were written and made by RogueWing. He graciously has given me permission to remaster his battles into TFTC and I have chosen to start with XWA-TC 14: The History of the ISD Immortal.

This battle tells the story of ISD Immortal from before Episode IV until its incorporation into the Emperor’s Hammer Fleet after Episode VI.

Below is the text from RogueWing's original Readme for the battle.

All effort has been made to make this mission as historically accurate as possible. That means that several missions will require you to fly and unshielded Tie Fighter in the missions. As a result, you should gain an appreciation of how the early fighter pilots flew their missions.

Mission 1-While Lord Vader is meeting with the Emperor, you must patrol the area around the secret shipyard and make sure no one stumbles across it.

Mission2-The Immortal has joined up with the ISD Devastator to capture a corvette carrying stolen plans aboard it. While the Devastator makes the capture, Immortal pilots will fly against any reinforcements.

Mission3- Lord Vader has dispatched the Immortal to the planet of Toprawa to make an example of the rebel sympathizers there. You must reduce the planet to rubble.

Mission4-When the Immortal is called to Endor, its hyperdrive is sabotaged. Be prepared for an enemy attack.

Mission 5-The crippled Immortal is creeping through rebel space on its sub-light engines. Fly cover around it and make sure the enemy doesn't find it.

Mission 1: Hidden Shipyard[edit]

TFTC-TC 5-m1.png

Commander's Briefing[edit]

The Imperial Star Destroyer Immortal and its sister ship the ISD Devastator serve as personal vessels for Lord Vader. Where he goes one or the other of them invariably carries him.

Today the ISD Immortal has the honor of the Dark Lord's patronage and has carried him to a hidden location, for a secret meeting.

Tactical Briefing Text[edit]

Lord Vader was called to a meeting with the Emperor at the shipyard preparing the new class of Star Destroyers.

He will be returning shortly.

Patrol the area in case anyone finds this hidden shipyard.

If anyone does stumble across it, the nearby Golan Station has a small gravity well projector that will keep them from fleeing into hyperspace for [4 minutes].

The Immortal is taking the opportunity to refuel and load up on supplies.

Good luck.

Radio Messages[edit]

<CPT Huten> Be on your toes Ranger!

<CPT Huten> Lord Vader is heading to the Immortal. Make sure that he is not disturbed

<Jolly Rancher> Whoa! Imps, get us out of here!

<G/3> A Rebel force just hypered in. Powering up gravity wells now. Remember, our interdiction field will only last four minutes

<CPT Huten> Don't let them get away

<CPT Huten> Ghost is launching now for backup!

<CPT Huten> Report back to the Immortal. Lord Vader wants to speak with you!

<Ranger 2> That new Destroyer is HUGE!

<CPT Huten> Lord Vader will be impressed!

Victory Briefing[edit]

Captain Huten of the ISD Immortal looked out of the bridge windows at the new Super Star Destroyer under construction. He would be glad when it was finished and Lord Vader transferred his command to that ship and that unfortunate captain. Maybe then his life wouldn't be in constant danger. The first officer stepped up beside him, "Sir, the damage report from that skirmish."

The captain looked over the information. At least they had been able to prevent that convoy from getting off a message. Suddenly, he felt that invisible pull in the back of his mind that meant that Lord Vader wanted to see him. Handing the datapad back to his first officer, he told him, "Finish the loading of supplies and be prepared to leave the system on my return." He left the bridge knowing that it may be the last time he ever saw it again and headed towards Lord Vader's chambers.

He entered Vader's command chamber as he knew he should to find the Sith Lord standing over a holographic map of the galaxy. Without turning, Lord Vader spoke, "Captain Huten, I must congratulate you on the ability of your pilots. You owe them your life." The captain swallowed deeply and replied, "I will pass that message on to them, my Lord."

Lord Vader continued, "The Emperor is upset. Certain secret battle plans were stolen and we believe that Leia Organa of Alderaan is on her way now to her home planet to deliver them to a Rebel operative." He paused to let that information sink in. "We have been ordered to intercept them quietly and retrieve those plans. We must not let it be known that a member of the Imperial Senate is conspiring with the Rebels. So, we need to pick a system that is small and out of the way to perform this operation."

The Dark Lord peered at the map and with a gesture of his finger, it expanded to show one system in particular. "This one will do very well. Captain, set your course for..." But he trailed off as the name of the system came up on the display.

Not knowing what to do, the captain stood at attention for what seemed an eternity as Lord Vader stared off in space. After several minutes of deathly quiet, the captain summoned all his remaining bravery and cleared his throat, "Uhh...my Lord. What system did you say set course for?"

Vader turned so quickly, the captain stepped back involuntarily. Then, he felt those invisible fingers at his throat. "You dare to question my orders?!" Dropping to his knee, he croaked out, "My apologies, my Lord. I didn't hear your orders." After several long heartbeats, the pressure on his throat released. "Do not fail me, Captain. Contact the Emperor's Net and have them meet us in this system and notify the Devastator that I will be joining them before we enter hyperspace. Now leave."

Looking quickly at the information displayed, he turned and headed to the bridge.Captain Huten wondered what Lord Vader had seen in the map to make him stop like that. As the bridge doors opened, he looked for his communications officer. Summoning him over, he ordered, "Find the Emperor's Net and have them standby for communication."

The first officer came up behind him, "We are going to be working with an Interdictor Cruiser?" Huten nodded, "Yes, we're taking Lord Vader on a special mission for the Emperor." The comm officer nodded at him and he turned toward the hologram that appeared there on the screen.

Captain Vish of the Interdictor Emperor's Net was a small portly man who nevertheless was one of the best "dragship" captains in the fleet. Addressing him, Captain Huten said, "Lord Vader has directed that you join us for an operation in a small, out of the way system as soon as possible." He pushed the button that would send coordinates to him.

Captain Vish nodded his acceptance of the transmission. "I will see you there, Immortal." As the holograph winked out, Captain Huten walked to the navigation station. Turning to the officer in charge, he said, "Set your course for the Tatooine system."

Mission 2: Tantive IV[edit]

TFTC-TC 5-m2.png

Commander's Briefing[edit]

Lord Vader has given his orders. We are lying in wait above the Outer Rim world of Tatooine with the Emperor’s Net to aid us in the capture of the suspected Rebel ship.

It seems that the Imperial Senator from Alderaan, Princess Leia, has carried the stolen Death Star Plans to this remote world.

We will use the Emperor’s Net to hold the Tantive IV above this desert world while the ISD Immortal and ISD Devastator capture the ship and recover the plans.

Tactical Briefing Text[edit]

We must retrieve the stolen plans before Lord Vader takes his anger out on the ship's crew.

The Emperor's Net has gone ahead to the Tatooine system and is preparing to pull the Tantive IV out of hyperspace.

The Devastator will ambush it from behind and disable it while the Immortal provides cover. When that is done, it will be taken aboard and stormtroopers will board it.

We don't know what kind of reinforcements the Princess may have, but be prepared for anything.

Good luck.

Radio Messages[edit]

<CPT Huten> There is the corvette

<CPT Huten> They got reinforcements! Protect the Interdictor

<CPT Huten> Lord Vader is joining you

<Ghost 1> Ghost is launching now. On our way

<Ranger 1> Ranger is on it's way!

<Falcon 1> This is Falcon Squadron. Leave the Cruiser for us

<CPT Huten> The Corvette is disabled! Moving to board it now

<CPT Huten> Can you inspect that escape pod, Ghost 2?

<CPT Huten> Corvette, this is the Imperial Navy. Stand by and be prepared to be boarded

<Tantive IV> Are you crazy! This is a diplomatic ship. We don't have time for this nonsense

<CPT Huten> All fighters. Take out their shields

Victory Briefing[edit]

Captain Huten swallowed deeply as he walked down the ramp of his Lambda-class shuttle. He had flown over to the Devastator when Lord Vader had summoned him. He knew that his life was in a lot of danger right now, but he was determined to face it with bravery. Nodding at the stormtrooper escort he said, "Take me to Lord Vader's chambers."

When he arrived, he had to stand aside while two stormtroopers dragged a body wearing the uniform of a major out of the room. Vader had his back turned, already forgetting the unfortunate man he had just killed. Captain Huten dropped to one knee, "My lord, what may I do for you?"

He shivered when Vader whirled around quickly. "The stolen plans were not on board the corvette. The Major in charge of the boarding party paid for his troopers' slowness in their duties. The only reason you are not joining him right now is that your pilots showed extraordinary skill and bravery at fighting off the rebels. You owe them your life once again."

"I will pass your message on to them." He stood at Vader's gesture and walked closer. Vader continued, "The ISD Garret will be here shortly to take me and the prisoners back to the new Death Star Station. The Devastator will be staying behind to direct the search on the planet for the missing plans. But I have a special mission for you."

"We have found a planet that was apparently the staging area for the plans while the rebels set up a meeting with the Princess. It is the Toprawa system. You are to proceed there and destroy as much of the planet as possible. If you run across any rebel ships before you get there, be sure to annihilate them as well."

Huten smiled as he replied, "It would be my pleasure, my Lord."

Vader raised a finger and said, "Good, because if you fail me in this, you can be sure that your death will not be as easy as the majors. Dismissed."

On his way back to his shuttle, Captain Huten couldn't help but smile. After all, he was still alive.

Mission 3: Toprawa[edit]

TFTC-TC 5-m3.png

Commander's Briefing[edit]

Captain Huten of the ISD Immortal had his orders. He is to take the Immortal to Toprawa and reduce the planet back to the Stone Age.

It is not a job he relishes, but better the planet of Toprawa faces Vader's wrath then he or his crew.

Tactical Briefing Text[edit]

Lord Vader wants us to make an example of the planet Toprawa.

When we arrive in system, you will launch and provide cover against any fighters they may have. We don't expect them to have any new fighters on hand.

The Immortal will destroy their orbital defenses which consist of only 1 older model platform.

When everything in orbit has been destroyed, the Immortal will commence planetary bombardment.

Good luck.

Radio Messages[edit]

<Guardian> Imperials. What are you doing here?

<CPT Huten> We're hear to teach you a lesson. When we're done, no one else will want to help the rebels

<CPT Huten> Looks like they picked up an old Dreadnaught

<CPT Huten> They must have called for reinforcements

<Paradise> Don't!! We have women and children on board

<Fulfillment> Please, we're just a business establishment

<Retirement> Nooo!!! All we are is a retirement home for the elderly

<CPT Huten> Good work! Now let's finish them off!

<J'Ther> Imperials. Leave this system at once

<Ghost 2> Make us!

<Ghost 2> You rookies!

<Blue Leader> Take this you Imp!

<Ghost 2> Be careful. Some of these ships have shields

Victory Briefing[edit]

Captain Huten stood in his chambers and looked at the hologram of Lord Vader standing before him. If Vader wasn't pleased with the battle over Toprawa, then the captain would be dead shortly. After what seemed an eternity, Vader looked up from reading the after action report.

"Good work, Captain Huten. You and your pilots are to be commended. The neighboring planets will think long and hard before they extend any sympathies to the rebels." Huten nodded, "Thank you, my lord. It is always a pleasure to bring order to the galaxy. What would you have me do now?"

For a minute, the Sith Lord was silent and then he spoke, "Take your ship to the Kuat Drive Yard 45K-21. They will be expecting you."

Captain Huten frowned, "My lord, we didn't sustain any significant damage in the battle." Vader replied, "I know that, but certain Star Destroyers are undergoing complete upgrades to various systems including shields, weaponry, and engines. I want your ship to be one of the first in line. I believe that it will come in handy in the future to have such a loyal ship that is much more powerful. Also, we are going to be adding shields to most of your fighter craft aboard. If the experiment works out, other ships will have their fighters shield equipped as well."

The captain bowed his head, "Yes, my lord. I will report there as soon as we leave this system."

Lord Vader disconnected the transmission. Huten smiled to himself. Yes, he would enjoy having the Immortal a much more powerful ship. That way, he could help bring even more order to the galaxy. He turned and headed for the bridge......

Mission 4: Ambush[edit]

TFTC-TC 5-m4.png

Commander's Briefing[edit]

For years the ISD Immortal has faithfully served the Emperor and the Empire. The Immortal fought in several battles against the Rebels and their Mon Calamari Cruisers throughout the Outer Rim.

Now the ship has been ordered to join the Fleet buildup at Endor but calamity has stuck.

Tactical Briefing Text[edit]

After a successful tour in the Outer Rim, we have been ordered to depart for Endor to join the Fleet buildup there.

But half-way there, our hyperdrive was sabotaged. We believe this is a prelude to an attack.

All fighters are to launch and be ready to defend the Immortal while the hyperdrive is repaired.

Radio Messages[edit]

<CPT Huten> All pilots, watch for enemy craft

<Falcon 1> Man I hate waiting. I wish they would hurry up and attack

<Falcon 1> There they are. Only a Strike Cruiser and Frigate

<Falcon 1> Another one. Boy, they must want us bad!

<Falcon 1> You gotta be kidding! This is NOT good

<CPT Huten> Take out those Y-Wings first

<Falcon 1> I like these shields!

Victory Briefing[edit]

Commander Reqit looked at the senior officers that were left after the battle. He had taken command when Captain Huten was killed on the bridge along with most of the senior officers. Wearily he sighed, "Ok, let's go over this again. What happened to our hyperdrive?"

The Intelligence officer looked nervous. "Well, it appears that one of our engineers was a rebel sympathizer. He sabotaged the hyperdrive motivator hoping that we wouldn't be able to join the rest of the fleet at Endor. I wish I could tell you more, but he took a suicide pill before he was captured."

Reqit turned to the senior engineer. "How bad is the damage to the engines, Calri?" The engineer grunted, "The engines are fine, but the hyperdrive is shot. That damn fool really knew what he was doing. We don't have the parts on board to fix it, so for now we have to run on our sublight engines." Reqit asked, "What about the rest of the ship?"

Calri beamed proudly,"Well, she took quite a pounding, sir, but nothing we can't patch together for now. I wouldn't recommend another prolonged action, though. She's a mighty powerful ship, but she can only take so much. We have major damage in almost all the major systems, including the shields."

The Commander nodded. That's about what he had thought as well. "Sir?" He turned and looked at the next senior officer, Lt. Byll. "Yes." Byll looked around nervously, "Well, I was wondering, what are we going to do now? Do we send a message to the rest of the fleet for help or are we going to try to limp into a nearby system?"

Just then, an aide stepped up to Commander Reqit and whispered into his ear while handing him a datapad. Everyone at the table saw his face turn as white as a Hoth snowfield. As the aide left, Reqit looked as if he wanted to crawl up in a corner. After a few long minutes, he finally spoke.

"Communications just received an automated signal from Endor. It appears that the rebels won." He paused to let that sink in. "But, the report also states that the Emperor and Lord Vader were both killed when the new Death Star Station was destroyed." nn Everyone looked stunned. "How is that possible? The rebels didn't have a chance." Reqit looked at Lt. Byll. "I don't know, but it seems that for now we are on our own. If we call for help, the rebels will probably be the ones that respond."

He punched a button and a map of their surrounding region popped up. "Let's see.” He selected a system and the map showed the specifics. "Navigator, how long will it take us to reach the Auroran system at sublight speeds?"

The navigator checked his computer, "Roughly, about 3 months." Commander Reqit replied, "Good, plot your course and move out at best possible speed." Lt. Byll asked, "Why that system, commander? There are others closer."

Reqit said, "Yes, but we don't know which ones have fallen into rebel hands and we're in no condition to get into a slugging match if we stumble into the wrong one. But the Auroran system is the base of operations of Grand Admiral Ronin, and I can assure you that he has not succumbed to the rebels. We will go there for repairs and see what has happened with the Empire in the meantime."

"I want a full combat patrol out at all times. We must not let the rebels find out that there is a damaged Imperial Star Destroyer out here. If they find us before the Empire, we are dogmeat......"

Mission 5: Grand Admiral Ronin[edit]

TFTC-TC 5-m5.png

Commander's Briefing[edit]

The once proud and mighty Immortal has been silently slipping through the Outer Rim in a journey to the Alpha Sector in hopes of uniting with the forces under Grand Admiral Ronin.

The reluctant Captain of the Immortal, Commander Reqit, is certain that if any command has remained loyal to the Empire and its ideals after the death of the Emperor, it will be that of the Grand Admiral.

Battle damage from the Rebels’ treachery has reduced the combat effectiveness of the ship to a shadow of its former strength.

Tactical Briefing Text[edit]

For the last two months, we have been creeping through rebel territory on our sublight engines.

All of our pilots have been taking turns flying a combat patrol around the ship.

It is imperative that the enemy not find us. We are not capable of holding off an attack force of any size.

If you see [ANY] ships, destroy them before they can get off a message.

Radio Messages[edit]

<Ghost 2> Man, I hate sneaking around like this…

<Ghost 2> I wish we had some action right about now

<Ghost 2> Enemy ships are dropping out of hyperspace!

<CM Reqit> All pilots are launching now, take out any bombers that they may have

<CM Reqit> Pilots, our shields are down!

<CM Reqit> Help! They have nearly got us!

<GA Ronin> Imperial ship. Looks like you need help

<CM Reqit> Yeah..take out the remaining capital ships

<CM Reqit> Thanks for the help, Avenger. You wouldn't happen to have any spare parts for our hyperdrive would you?

<GA Ronin> I think we can find something for you

<CM Reqit> All pilots, return to the Immortal for debriefing

Victory Briefing[edit]

Grand Admiral Ronin surveyed the secondary bridge of the Immortal. It was a wreck. Everywhere he looked, he saw burnt out consoles and evidence of fires. It was unbelievable that this ship had survived such a pounding and still made it through. He had flown over to the Immortal from the Super Star Destroyer Avenger when the repair crews had informed him that it would be several days before the hyperdrive was repaired. But now that his flagship was here, no one would dare attack them.

He looked at the very young officer beside him, "Commander Reqit, I must commend you and your men on this remarkable accomplishment."

Reqit looked very tired, but also very proud, "Thank you sir. I had little to do with it. My crew and pilots deserve all the credit."

Grand Admiral Ronin nodded, "Well, as soon as your hyperdrive is fixed, we will escort you to the shipyard in the Auroran system. The Immortal will need a lot of work before she is redeployed, but she deserves it. I would like you to be the captain when she is sent back to duty."

Reqit looked shocked, "Me?! Grand Admiral, I don't know if that is such a good idea. I just wanted to get to where I knew the Empire's ideals still remained firm. Now that we are here, I never expected to receive command."

Grand Admiral Ronin spoke, "Well, you will make a fine captain and the Immortal will be a great asset to the Emperor's Hammer Fleet. I will begin making arrangements for some of our elite pilots to be transferred aboard to make up for your losses. Welcome to the Emperor's Hammer."

Captain Reqit snapped to attention. Yes, the ISD Immortal was home now......
