According to the TIE Corps Pilot Manual, "The Strategic Operations Officer is primarily responsible for awarding the medals, approving uniforms and reviewing the monthly evaluations from Wing Commanders. The Strategic Operations Officer is also considered second in command of the TIE Corps and thus may be called the TIE Corps Executive Officer (TCXO)."
Along with TIE Corps Commander and the Combat Operations Officer, the SOO is part of the TIE Corps Command Staff.
The position has seen only sporadic use in the face of fluctuating numbers, but it is currently in use. The position will be filled by John T. Clark on May 9, 2020. It was last held by Plif.
